Janata Shikshan Sanstha’s Kisan
Veer Mahavidyalaya, Wai has a very great tradition of imparting education to
the rural students. Established in 1962 by Kisan Mahadev Veer, a veteran
freedom fighter, with the help of Tarkateertha Laxmanshashtri Joshi, a renowned
Sanskrit scholar, the college made a humble beginning with only 80 students.
For a long time, the college had been providing only graduate and postgraduate education
in Arts and Commerce faculties.
After the demise of Kisan Veer,
“Arts and Commerce College, Wai” was renamed as “Kisan Veer Mahavidyalaya,
Wai”. Hon. Prataprao Bhosale became the President and Hon. Laxmanrao Jadhav-Patil,
the Vice-President of the Sanstha. Science Faculty was added in 1982. The
Management has also made available Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open
University, Nashik’s distance education centre and Bachelor of Computer Applications
Course. Recently, the Management has introduced M. Sc. in Organic Chemistry. It
has also started Psychology and Statistics at the third year degree level.
Taking into consideration the
changing needs of the students, the Management has constructed Women’s Hostel
and Indoor Sports Hall with the UGC financial assistance. The college has also
excellent support services in the form of Library, Science Laboratories,
Language Laboratory, Lunch Hall, Canteen, Parking, Students’ Cooperative Store,
Playground, Mango Orchard, etc.
The Management has undertaken a
very innovative and service-oriented project of providing free education and
free accommodation to the students belonging to the families affected by the
suicides of farmers in Maharashtra. Some students from Jammu and Kashmir State
have also started taking education in our college under Prime Minister’s
Special Scholarship Scheme.
The college feels proud of its
alumni which has been rendering valuable service in different fields of life.
Our students have excellent track record in academics. They also excel in
Sports, NSS, NCC, Cultural Department, College Magazine Competition, etc. at
University, State, National and sometimes, International levels.
I am proud of my well-qualified
teaching staff and efficient administrative staff. I express my deep sense of
gratitude to the noble Management for giving me an opportunity to work as the
Principal of this esteemed college.
