Janata Shikshan Sanstha, Wai has a very glorious tradition of imparting quality education. The motto of the Sanstha is “To light up the paths, indeed have we come.” The Sanstha has chosenas a symbol of its ideals and aspirations the resplendent Sun that dispels the darkness of ignorance and fills the entire humanity with the light of knowledge. The Vision of the Sanstha is “To provide quality education to the students in order to make them competent and self-reliant in every walk of life” and the Mission is “Education for all round development of the students.”

“Janata Mahavidyalaya Samiti’’was constituted under the leadership of Deshbhakta Kisan Mahadeo alias Abasaheb Veer, a veteran Freedom Fighter, on 16th July 1961 to establish a college in Wai to impart quality education to the students residing in the remote corners of Wai, Koregoan, Khandala, Mahabaleshwar and Jaoli Tehsils of Satara district. As there was no registered society to establish the college, the responsibility of running “Arts and Commerce College, Wai” had initially been given toPradnyapathshalamandal, Wai headed by TarkateerthaLaxmanshastri Joshi, a renowned Sanskrit Scholar. The college commenced in 1962. Janata Shikshan Sanstha was duly registered on 12th July 1967 with the Registrar of Societies under the Societies Act 1960 and with Assistant Charity Commissioner under Bombay Public Trust Act 1960.The college was soon officially transferred from Pradnyapathshalamandal, Wai to Janata Shikshan Sanstha, Wai on 1st April 1968.

Although the college made a humble beginning with only undergraduate Arts and Commerce education, Dr.Appasaheb Pawar, the then Vice-Chancellor of Shivaji University, Kolhapur, gave permission and inaugurated the M. Com. Classes on 4 July 1969. In 1973, the postgraduate classes of Marathi and English were added. The UG classes of the college got the permanent affiliation to Shivaji University, Kolhapur in 1982. The same year Science Faculty was started in the college.

After the sudden demise of founder of the college Kisan Veer in 1979, the college was renamed after his name as “Kisan Veer Mahavidyalaya, Wai” in order to commemorate the founder President’sremarkable contribution to the establishment and development of the college.

Hon. Shri. Prataprao Bhosale became the President and Late Laxmanrao Jadhav-Patil, the Vice President of the Sanstha.Through their personal initiatives, bothraised donations to construct the Science Building consisting of spacious and well-equipped Science laboratories, classrooms and chambers of the teaching faculty.

In 1994, Museum and Green House were constructed through the UGC grants. The Science faculty and the postgraduate programs in Marathi, English and Commerce got permanent affiliation from Shivaji University, Kolhapur in 2001.

In 2012, the Management started M. Sc. Organic Chemistry taking into consideration the demand from the students and the requirement of industry during this era of globalization. With the help of the grants from the UGC, the Management also constructed Women’s Hostel and Indoor Sports Hall.

The College Magazine “KRISHNAI”, which provides our students a platform for making their imaginative and informative contributions, has won different individual prizes in the magazine competitions organized at the university level.

Kisan Veer Mahavidyalaya imparts education in Arts, Commerce and Science faculties along with a degree program in Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). Our NCC cadets have attended RD Parade and our cadets have received awards and recognition at the State and National levels. The NCC and NSS unitshaveconducted extension activities in the form of Blood donation Camps, Tree Plantation, Literacy Mission, AIDS Awareness, Voter’sAwareness, Pulse Polio Vaccination, Nirmal Gram, etc.Our sports persons have played and won medals at the Zonal, Inter Zonal, University, Inter University, State, National and International levels.

In 1962, the strength of the college was only 80. At present, it is more than six thousand. The growth of the college is not only quantitative but also highly qualitative. Our students have excelled in the academic, cultural, sports, NSS and NCC fields at the university, state, national and, sometimes, international levels. Many of our students have occupied good positions in administration, industry, banking, research, and corporate world.The college was accredited in 2004, reaccredited in 2013 and assessed for Third Cycle in 2018 by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore, with B+ Grade.

During the last sixty-two years, the Management has taken steps to introduce such programs as M.A. (English, Marathi, Hindi & Economics), Science Faculty,Study Centre Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik, B.C.A., M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry), Competitive Examination Centre, etc. The college has also developed such educational facilities as huge playground, Students Co-operative Store, Parking, Canteen, Women’s Hostel, Indoor Sports Hall, Wrestling Complex, etc. To realise the vision of Hon. Prataprao Bhosale, the Management has shown a great sense of social commitment by constructing “Jai Kisan Boys Hostel” with necessary facilities of free lodging/boarding/uniforms/medical care for the sons of bereaved families affected due to the suicidal deaths of farmers in rural Maharashtra. All the stakeholders of the college have provided financial assistance in the construction of this hostel.

At present, Hon. Madandada Bhosale is the President and Hon. ShankarraoGadhave, the Vice President of the Sanstha. Under the dynamic leadership of Hon. Madandada, the Management now plans to introduce quality skill-based education in collaboration with P-eduKULDigi university Pvt. Ltd.
