Janata Shikshan Sanstha’s Kisan Veer Mahavidyalaya, Wai, affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur, has a very glorious tradition of excellence. Kisan Mahadeo alias Abasaheb Veer, a veteran Freedom Fighter, took initiative to establish a college at Wai in 1962 in order to impart quality education to the students residing in the remote corners of Wai, Koregoan, Khandala, Mahabaleshwar and Jaoli Talukas. Before Janata Shikshan Sanstha was duly registered, “Arts and Commerce College, Wai” had been run by Pradnyapathshalamandal, Wai headed by TarkateerthaLaxmanshastri Joshi, a renowned Sanskrit Scholar. When Janata Shikshan Sanstha was duly registered on 12th July 1967, the college was transferred from Pradnyapathshala mandal, Wai to Janata Shikshan Sanstha, Wai. After the demise of Abasaheb Veer in 1979, the college was renamed as “Kisan Veer Mahavidyalaya, Wai” in order to commemorate his contribution to the establishment and development of the college.

During the last sixty-two years, the Management has taken steps to introduce such programs as M. Com., M.A. (English, Marathi, Hindi & Economics), Science Faculty, Study Centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik Study Centre, B.C.A., M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry), Competitive Examination Centre, etc. The college has also developed huge playground, Students Co-operative Store, Parking, Canteen, Women’s Hostel, Indoor Sports Hall, Wrestling Complex, etc. The Management has shown a great sense of social commitment by constructing “Jai Kisan Boys Hostel” for the students belonging to the families affected by the suicides of the farmers in Maharashtra. All the stakeholders of the college have provided financial assistance to the construction of this hostel. The Management now plans to introduce some skill-based programs as per NEP 2020.

Currently, the college provides, along with conventional graduate and postgraduate education, such vibrant platforms as National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, KRISHNAI Magazine, Cultural Department, Scholarships, Freeships, Students Aid Fund, Earn and Learn Scheme, Shivaji University Students Welfare Fund, Alumni Association, etc. It has also made available training and facilities for playing Cricket, Volley Ball, Handball, Archery, Kho Kho, Wrestling, Badminton, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Mallakhamb, etc.

In addition to Kisan Veer Mahavidyalaya, the Sanstha runs different High Schools at Khanapur, Vyajwadi, Shirgaon, Vele, Dhawadi, Shendurjane and Govedigar. I am confident that the students are going to take maximum benefit of different programs and facilities provided to them in high schools and the college and attain the all-round development so as to succeed in whatever careers they choose in life!
